    Ponytail Happy Dance

    pebbles1

This entry should be subtitled, "Sometimes My Life is a Romantic Comedy."

Last night, I went to wash up for bed as Steve started his nightly PT. He does this ab machine thing and then does toning exercises that I like to call "Man Pilates." Sure looks a lot like pilates to me.

Anyway, as I approached the bathroom mirror, a thought struck me. "Hmmm. Do I finally have enough hair for a ponytail?!?"

    audrey2audrey

You see, last summer, I got all my hair chopped off. I had two reasons: 1) I wanted to find out what my real hair color was under my blonde highlights and 2) Steve and I were about to go on an adventurous vacation where hair might get in the way. So I chose an adorable haircut. One that would work well with my hair type and my face/neck. It was Audrey Hepburn's pixie cut. I took it in, my hair dresser studied the picture closely, and proceeded to give me an entirely different cut with even less hair than the cut I wanted. I thought the new cut was sort of cute for a couple of days, but then we out to dinner for our anniversary, and there at the restaurant were 3 or 4 women with my same haircut. Not a single one of them could have been under 70. Yes, I was pissed.

So back to last night. After that initial observation, I opened my hair drawer and pulled out a trusty scrunchy. I pulled my hair back and, "Voila!" All the hair fit into the scrunchy and it all stayed! Sure, the ponytail is a mere stub. Somewhere between these two shots:

But the point is that I can now pull my hair back if I want! A ponytail opens up a whole world of possibilities, like sleeping in an extra 15 minutes and just putting my hair in a ponytail instead of the whole wash/blowdry routine.

    Woo hoo! I was elated.

I started to do a happy dance and pranced into the bedroom where Steve was crunching away at the ab machine. I danced and I danced and I told him how happy I was.

That's when I realized that Steve is a guy and, therefore, not "getting it." He was enjoying my dance. But he had no clue that it was all in honor of the ponytail that was still in tact on my head! I pointed. He didn't get it. So I told him. "Look! Look at me! I have a ponytail! I have ENOUGH HAIR for a ponytail!"

His happiness for me was somewhat deminished. I guess he doesn't realize the level of suffering sine July without enough hair for a ponytail. But he was still pleased for me.

So I got ready for bed and then got into bed to read my Scriptures while he went into the bathroom to brush his teeth and all that.

I was just wrapping up my prayer time when Steve came dancing into the bedroom. He gyrated in silly ways and I realized he was imitating me. He waved his hands in front of his face, did some dancy-head-nod moves, and then got in really close to me. "Look!" he said, "Look at me! I have a ponytail! I have enough hair for a ponytail!"

And there, on his forehead, was a teeny tuft of military-cut short hair gathered with a twist-tie. He had a 1 cm ponytail.

Of course, I laughed myself silly. I was laughing so hard that Steve had to leave the room from embarrassment.  God, I love silly men. Especially this one.

    1. Woooo hoooo I so can understand the ponytail thing. I cut my hair short and miss being able to put it up.

    2. Having a hubby that is willing to "prance around" and be silly...is priceless.

    3. I am glad you enjoyed it insted of feeling insulted and teased.

    4. the more I read your xanga blogs the more I think you are awesome!

  • firefighterswife

I love that you both tease each other! Its a sign of trust and love!!! I have found that I can not only pull my hair back into a ponytail but that I can put it into a french twist. I have always kept my hair ultra short, so this is a big thing for me too!!! I even wore it this way for my in laws 50th party!!! I felt lovely with my hair up and off my neck!!!

    Awesome!

This made me smile so hard my face hurts!

  • TheCheshireGrins

    LOL! Thanks for the laugh!

A few years ago, I cut off a ton of hair so that I could donate it to Locks of Love, a charity that makes wigs for cancer patients. It was a good cause but I was so sad not to be able to pull my hair up. I know how you feel!

  • BigToePeople

@alterEGGO - Thanks so much!!!  (blushing over the compliment)

@sonnetjoy - Wow, thanks for the mini. So glad I could contribute to your smile

@firefighterswife - Woo hoo! I bet your hair looked gorgeous.

@TheCheshireGrins - Locks of Love is such a great cause. My friend's daughter has donated 2 ponytails in 3 years. A teacher friend of mine used to do that, too, and her students would jump on the bandwagon and they'd send in a handfull of ponytails.

ha ha ha that was real funny!!!! I can relate to the pony tail, I cut my hair super short a few years ago, and was just as excited when I could finally put it up in a ponytail no matter how small it was, it took almost a year for that!!! Everyone laughed at my tiny ponytail but I was happy!!! You guys are make such a cute couple, I sensed you guys got along just wonderfully since we met God bless you both!!!

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA ~ loved this!!!

I have enough hair for a 2 inch ponytail. But only if it is sticking straight out of the top of my head. It look incredibly silly, and is so much fun.

  • BigToePeople

    @veritos1102 - THanks so much!

@Neeka1 - Thanks, and thanks for the rec!

Your story is adorable :) I had short haircut for my first 15 years of life because of being in government school and when I can have longer hair is a bliss. LOL and I like your husband's reaction, it's amusing yet lovely!

  • stixandstonz

Oh I am so jealous that you can pull your  hair back into a pony tail.  I got mine cute really short which looks ok since I am gray haired but am hoping it grows out fast.  Seemed like a good idea at the time but now I am not happy with my decision.  The good thing is that it always grows:)

  • leannenannette

YAY!!!!!!  I was going to tell you and kept forgetting to that after seeing your vacation pictures that you e-mailed me, I was impressed to see how long your hair was getting!  I know how badly you've wanted to grow it out, so I was going to mention that I noticed how long it was finally getting!  But I forgot...repeatedly.

I love this story though!  That is totally something I would do.  I was thrilled when I could put my hair into tiny little pigtails at the base of my head/neck area.  Then to get to do a ponytail!  Oh I was in heaven.  Hehe.  Of course my ponytails were and still are just partial ones.  The bottom pieces still fall out, but that is okay.  I can still do a ponytail!  I have been letting it grow for the past couple months for this summer.  I know with baby-sitting and doing therapy every day that I won't want to have it hanging on my neck.

I also love that Steve imitated you.  It's neat to see what a fun relationship you two have.  I was just reading on another friend's Xanga site how her husband was trying to imitate her doing backbends and walk-overs.  I told her the same thing about how neat it is to read about the fun some couples have.  :)

    Thanks for the laugh!

Party over here, party over there...

Funny! I had a pony tail at one point in my life.  I looked soooo cool.  But then I had to "cut my hair and get a job"

    Great story!

  • Neeka1

ROFLOL ~ STILL AS FUNNY AS THE FIRST TIME I READ IT!!

  • BigToePeople

@Jaynebug - Yes, I love being nutty with this man!

    @becksue - Thanks

@guestbrief - Thanks! And thanks for the rec too!

  • Job_One_21

LOL!!!  I am laughing my butt off over here!  But i know exactly how you feel.  When i was able to wear a pony tail again, i was elated!

  • BigToePeople

@Job_One_21 - I'm so glad you got a good laugh out of it. I sent a link to this to one of my brothers and his wife...they've been teasing us like crazy. We're going to visit them in East Texas this weekend and they're expecting Steve to do an encore
